SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT & PSYCHIC AWARENESS Your Expanding Consciousness is your personal "Big Bang"!
Selections from “Jane Roberts PSYCHIC POLITICS”, an Aspect Psychology Book Chapter 24, Stages of Consciousness (pp 311-325)
P 314 … STAGES OF CONSCIOUSNESS
Like many people, I’ve been afraid of by own greater reality. … In our society once you begin to glimpse the self’s greater and wider abilities and range then you’re afraid that the self that you knew earlier will be swept aside, shown to be inferior or somehow be annihilated. Instead, the ‘old self’ may be seen as only a glimmer of true selfhood.
STAGE 1
The focus personality begins to initiate the expansion process and recognize the validity of unofficial information; as in startling dream, vision or conversion experience. Ouija or automatic writing, precognition and/or telepathic experiences, may be a part of this recognition. While these may seem to come at once, the focus personality has been casting about for some “time”, searching for a new creative expression and freedom from the restrictions that have previously limited its range.
P 315 … STAGE 2
The focus personality tries to continue its expansion while maintaining its previous orientation – and to correlate its unofficial information in terms of its religious and cultural beliefs. Many, at this stage, try to “prove” that their sources exist, physically – even though they are psychological. And many will identify these internal sources of information as being outside of their own self and abilities. [as Angels, Devils, Masters, Ascended Masters, Saints and such]
P 316 … you possess these abilities … even if their clothing is symbolic. [You are "made in His image"]
In a way such experiences (visions, revelations and some trance personifications) are bigger than our ideas of what life and existence really are. As we allow this natural creativity to emerge and flow we become better able to solve life’s challenges. P 317 … The ready made symbols of religion and pseudoscience are probably helpful to many people, providing them with an orientation for inner activities, awarenesses and growth. To be free to grow, however, these processes need to be outside of organized religions, doctrines and dogmas.
These stages of growth, left alone and allowed to mature, will mirror the Aspects of the psyche being activated [as the man Jesus did when he activated his Christ Light within].
STAGE 3
This stage is “worlds away” from Stage 2, as the need for sacrifice and death only exist in stages 1 and 2 where arbitrary standards of the duality between self and not-self predominate. Thus, in religious terms this stage is usually called death of self or death of will and is truly a “rebirth”.
P 318 … This process of growth and expansion normally fluctuates between Stage 1 and Stage 2 for a while until it finally builds enough momentum to break through to Stage 3.
STAGE 4
Graduation to this stage brings the awareness of a new self-country, much expanded beyond the individual self, inI which the focus self realizes that the assumptions of the one-line [linear thinking] consciousness only apply to that level.
In our society, the consensus beliefs limit us to pre-Stage 1 which is in fact a prerequisite for the other stages, as it provides a sturdy physical foundation on which to build one’s own reality. All this is true, despite the fact that unofficial data that would show alternate patterns is discouraged. [Thus, we tend to see a certain “order” to life, even though there are many successful “alternate orders”, that are simply dismissed as “disorder”.]
P 319 … We do not allow ourselves to recognize such natural stages of change and growth. Yet a normal progression might very well lead to a new understanding of death and the independence of consciousness from our body-focus. Previously our psychological therapies have been devoted to returning the strays back into the folds of the official line [of Western; Judeo-Christian-Islamic beliefs and traditions]. These old beliefs and methods only served to reinforce the very psychological systems that retarded psychic growth; the development and expression of the psyche in its inner and outer relationships [that the prophets in our Western religious traditions knew so well].
… I think that these are natural stages, experienced to some degree by everyone. Beyond are states of ecstasy, almost impossible to sustain in normal living and the mark of a mystic state.
Continued from page 319 onto P 320
Various stages of consciousness exist in which time and space do not apply—beyond concepts of good and evil where there are no contradictions. In other words, the conditions of their reality (and of the portions of the psyche to which they correspond) are different than our [every day] reality realities.
